Shailee Basnet, born and brought up in Kathmandu missed playing any kind of sports in school. It was not just the thing for girls. Her secret childhood dream was to become physically active. She started her career as a journalist which provided mental stimulation but still lacked physical challenge. That’s why there was no thinking when an opportunity to climb Everest opened up. Her team ‘First Inclusive Women Sagarmatha Expedition’ comprising diverse Nepali women faced several socio-economic challenges yet became the most successful female team to climb Mt Everest in the year 2008.
Shailee then led the ‘Seven Summits Women Team’, world’s first female group to climb the highest mountain in each continent.
Following the success, she is now supporting recovery of Earthquake hit schools in Nepal and training young survivors of sex trafficking in the outdoors with a goal to provide them holistic empowerment. Shailee is an international speaker who has motivated audiences in six continents. In her free time she loves to write and perform stand-up comedy. She is a bilingual comic who performs regularly in Nepal and the USA.
